Don’t know what to do about your headaches? Are you suffering from frequent and recurrent headaches that partially or totally disable you and they can last for hours or even days?
The term headache includes different types that vary according to the degree of intensity and location. The most common conditions are:
Migraine: attacks can last anywhere from 4 to 72 hours with strong or violent intensity. In general, it begins with an initial pain on one side of the head, intense and throbbing, which can sometimes cover the entire skull. It may be accompanied by sensitivity to light and noise, as well as nausea and vomiting.
Tension and/or cervicogenic headache: muscular tensions at the level of the jaws, face, neck, shoulders and muscles that allows the mobility of the neck. It rather appears towards the end of the day, it is characterized by tension at the base of the skull, temples and/or forehead, as well as a feeling of pressure around the head.
Its origin is bad posture, loss of a proper alignment of the cervical spine and curve, inadequate pillows, bad mechanical function of the mandibulo articular joint, non-ergonomic workstations and stress.
Arnold’s neuralgia: the pain comes from inflammation or irritation of Arnold’s nerve (located at the level of the first and second cervical), described as an electric shock or burning that rises from the nape of the neck to the top of the head. It may be accompanied by pain behind the eye.
There are other cases in which the headaches are due to a temporomandibular (jaw) disorder. They originate at the level of the joints located in front of the ears and is accompanied by crunching when opening or closing the mouth.
The vertebral correction, the tool par excellence of the doctor of Chiropractic. Tensions caused by headaches can find their origin in the wrong movement or bad positioning of the cervical, dorsal or lumbar spine or by wrong pelvic position called subluxations.
The subluxation generates a nerve irritation which in turn causes hypertonicity of the neck muscles, the origin of the headache.
