Sciatica and Chiropractic

It is a pain that spreads to the buttocks and legs. It is due to irritation of the sciatic nerve. Very often this pain comes from a herniated disc, but the piriformis muscle may also be involved.

Sciatic pain begins, in most cases, in the lumbar region or in the buttock, often descending towards the back or side of the leg or around the hip. Oftentimes chained by pelvic malalignment and/or loss of parallelism of the last lumbar vertebrae, which in turn affects the formation of a disc compression of the sciatic nerve roots (by compression type herniated disc or disc protrusion) at its exit from the spine through the vertebral foramen.

Other causes

Another possible reason for sciatica pain is because of a bone compression by displacement and a narrowing of the mechanical outlet or due to osteoarthritis decreasing the diameter of the nerve outlet.

Also, the piriformis muscle may be the cause when it spasm and compress the nerve pressed between the muscle and the pelvic bone, or due to anatomical variations when the sciatic nerve crosses the piriformis muscle.

It is important to maintain the piriformis and deep muscles balanced, coordinated and tension free, with a good pelvic position to reduce the possibility of having low back pain problems or sciatica pain and improve your mobility.

Typical symptoms include pain, tingling, feeling of numbness in the leg or foot, ailments that appear to be circulatory, lack of strength in the ankle and foot.

Step by step treatment

Your chiropractor will solve your sciatic problem by intervening, first, levelling the pelvic position with all its repercussions on the balance of the entire spine. He will find the source that causes your sciatica problem, solving it in a completely natural way. He will return the maximum output of the joint hole, conditioned by poorly accumulated calcium salt deposits (osteoarthritis), due to lumbar vertebral subluxation, or correctly performing the bone structure in order to treat the origin of the contracture of the piriformis muscle and its pressure on the sciatic nerve. In this way he will restore good function and normal lumbar mobility.

The Chiropractic Doctor’s mission is to detect and correct subluxations.

By restoring the vertebrae to their natural position, interference is eliminated and the nervous system recovers its proper functioning. Therefore, pain and disorders disappear and health is restored.

In the first 10 to 15 minutes after your visit it is contraindicated to sit down.

During this period of time it is necessary to walk to mobilize the joints that we just release and walking also facilitate better joint lubrication and nutrition of the intervertebral discs.

During the next 24 hours following the first sessions avoid any excessive effort.

Otherwise, the effectiveness of the adjustment received will decrease.

Before and after every visit, avoid all kinds of tension.

Both physical and mental. The more relaxed you are the more benefit you will get from your treatment.

The set appointments must be respected.

They have been established to obtain the best results.

The sensations that each person may experience after an adjustment may vary without affecting the result and benefit of the treatment in the medium and long term.

After an adjustment, you may experience a feeling of relaxation, having a lot of energy, general well-being, disappearance or relief of symptoms, soreness or pain.

You may sometimes even experience discomfort since the body has to adapt to the new posture and position.
